Chicago-based British motion graphics designer Al Boardman has created a great animation that pays tribute to “Five Great Buildings” in his adopted city.

Featuring well-known landmarks like the Trump Tower and the John Hancock, the animation shows lines and geometric shapes “bloom” into clean and simple depictions of the buildings.

According to the designer, “Chicago has many truly great buildings. It sits firmly on the map of global architecture and is the birthplace of the skyscraper.”

Whether you agree that these buildings should be selected to represent Chicago or not, this short clip is still an enjoyable watch.
