Japanese photographer Miha Tamura is fascinated with escalators—she shoots and documents the escalators in Tokyo on her website Tokyo Escalator.
Having created what is probably the most comprehensive compilation of escalators in the bustling Japanese capital, Tamura’s collection consists of a staggering range of escalators, from magnificent spirals to the ridiculous “world’s shortest escalator”.
Showing how escalators often add interesting architectural elements to buildings,—both on the inside and on the outside—these pictures were captured in shopping malls, airports, hotels and even stadiums.
However, the photographer does not shoot just any escalator—she points out that she maintains certain standards and only photographs those escalators that stand out from the rest.
