Michigan-based photographer Nicholas Nixon has a stunning set of photographs of four sisters, documented over 25 years.
The work has formed his book, titled “The Brown Sisters”, which was published by MoMA in 1999.
Year after year for a total of 25 years, he conscientiously photographed a group portrait of his wife Bebe (the second from right) and her three sisters, Heather, Mimi and Laurie.
There are striking similarities as there are differences in each photo. One commonality is that they always face the camera in the same order, but they are in different settings and poses.
The end result is definitely worth the years of work, as the portraits that have captured precious moments in their life is both incredible and raw, and is a type of documentary art that many photographers cannot manufacture without time.
