Having fallen in love with small town America, photographer Sean R. Heavey has been capturing the country’s beautiful rural landscapes for the last few years—and some of his best pictures are of the dark, apocalyptic skies seen during thrilling storms.
To document the astounding swirling clouds and even lightning flashes that occur only during extreme weather, he digitally tracks the storms before driving out to meet them.
Venturing out well-prepared with a tank full of gas, an escape route and vital knowledge of storm-chasing, Heavey often returns home with rare images of awe-inspiring tumultuous skies.
By stitching together multiple shots, he is able to obtain stunning panoramic shots that would not look out of place in a doomsday movie.
