The deaf and hearing-impaired communicate in sign language. What is not known, however, is that sign language is very different from the spoken and written language—in terms of vocabulary or grammar.
To break down the communication barrier and increase awareness of sign language in Germany, a group of designers Morphoria decided to create a magazine that hopes to bridge the gap between the worlds of the deaf and the hearing.
Called ‘DEAF MAGAZINE’, the augmented reality-enabled lifestyle and society magazine writes about the culture of German sign language.
With text, pictures and videos with subtitles, the magazine would show digital information when the printed pages are scanned with a smart device, so that it’s easier for viewers to understand what is written on the pages—and the deaf can learn new words, while the hearing can learn sign language.
DEAF MAGAZINE would contain articles about events and trends of German sign language, special personalities, and other news and information about the deaf cultures of other countries.
