Design student Hsin Lin has come up with a stackable tea cup and saucer set titled ‘FIN’, for her thesis project at Parsons The New School For Design.
She was inspired to create the elegant set as she felt there was a loss of ceremony associated with drinking tea, and wanted to breathe new life into the act with her modern tea set.
Unlike contemporary tea sets where the cups and saucers are traditionally stacked separately, Hsin Lin designed FIN’s cup and saucer to be used together to ensure consumers make use of both pieces.
The saucer, which is made of cork, has a groove to fit the handle of the cup perfectly. This also allows the set to be stacked for easy storage.
Hsin Lin says, “The unity of the cup and saucer will help our generation appreciate the ceremonial significance behind a simple cup of tea.”
