Artist Makes Portraits Out Of Censored Women On Packaging From Iran

Iran’s strict moral codes have led to the censorship of certain female figures on product packaging. The female figures are usually erased with black ink.

Conceptual artist Mr Toledano sourced these original packaging from Iran, and extracted these “erased” women to transform them in his art works.

With his photo series titled ‘The Absent Portrait’, Mr Toledano seeks to make the censor an artist, and the censored, a portrait to be seen.

“The censor, a person whose function is to erase, becomes the person who makes us see”, said Mr Toledano on his website.
