Banksy Makes A Statement About McDonalds’ Employment Of Heavy Labor

A fiberglass replica of Ronald McDonald has appeared outside Seabury Avenue’s McDonald’s outlet, and will be making its rounds to different outlets during lunchtime for the next week.

The installation marks the 16th day of Banksy’s ‘Better Out Than In’ exhibition on the streets of New York for the month of October.

The mixed-media installation has a real boy, barefoot and dressed shabbily, shining McDonald’s irregularly large shoe. There’s something odd about his face as well—it seems to have been made in the likeness of the Greek god Hermes.

In his audio guide, Banksy hints about not being bothered to sculpt the real likeness of Ronald McDonald’s face, and describes the work as “a critique of the heavy labor required to sustain the polished image of a mega-corporation”.
