Beautiful, Out-Of-Focus Figures And Landscapes Rendered With Oil Paints

Cape Town-based artist Philip Barlow uses oil-based paint to render dreamy paintings of blurry figures and landscapes.

Reminiscent of hazy memories or photographs that are out-of-focus, the indistinct figures and scenes might look abstract, but they do seem “curiously familiar”, just like the artist intends.

“The figures in the landscape serve as carriers and reflectors of the light that falls upon them. Bathed in the luminosity, it is my hope that they would become more beautiful. To me, light is the ultimate subject because it embodies the pinnacle of all reality,” explains Barlow on his website.
