Gripping Photographs Of Grafitti-Filled NYC Subways In The 70s And 80s

New York City in the 70s and 80s was replete with artistic expression, danger and rebellion due to its melting pot of cultures and the spirit of the city.

During the time, graffiti was not only done outside on the streets, but also in enclosed compounds. Amateur and professional artists tagged on virtually any surface they could get their hands on—the graffiti-laden walls make good symbols of the gritty era filled with excitement and rebellion.

My Modern Met put together a series of photographs taken in NYC subways during the 70s-80s. The photographs capture the rampant violence and energy in the city during the time. Have a look at some of them here.
