67-year-old Ra Paulette has been making beautiful carvings on caves for the past 25 years.

After a series of odd jobs, the sculptor became an excavator in 1985, which required him to dig wells and outhouses. It soon transformed into an artistic endeavor and he started carving caves.

He completed his first cave in 1987, and soon, many people started to commission him for his work. To date, he has carved 14 caves with his pickaxe.

Ra Paulette is now working on his magnum opus, which is three years in the making. It will take 10 years for it to be complete.

One of his carved caves, called “Tree of Human Kindness” is up for sale. Located in New Mexico, it costs US$995,000.
