Meet Marvel's Superhero Royal Family, ‘The Inhumans’

Although relatively unknown to most, The Inhumans are about to get quite a bit of attention in the near future. They were created and introduced to the Marvel universe in 1965 by Jack Kirby and Stan Lee, in Fantastic Four #45. The Inhumans resulted from genetic experiments done on early humans by the alien race called the Kree. Through exposure to a mutagenic vapor, The Inhumans have developed a variety of powers and created their own civilization separate from humans.

The stories of The Inhumans are focussed mainly on their royal family, which consists of king Black Bolt, queen Medusa and Crystal, Gorgon and Lockjaw. As a family unit with 20,000 years of history, they bring a new, fascinating side to the Marvel universe that all other superheroes lack.

According to Charles Soule, the current writer of the Inhuman series, the first issue was designed to reintroduce The Inhumans and show their impact on the Marvel universe, while another series titled Uncanny Inhumans will show their superhero sides more.

Plans for The Inhumans include a possible step towards the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the future in 2019. But their presence has been hinted at on TV show, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., and fans might be able to get a glimpse of them on TV soon.
