Quirky Illustrations Of Girls With Realistic Bodies Rarely Seen In Fashion

Brisbane-based illustrator Mel Stringer came up with this project while sitting in coffee house and letting her creativity run wild.

Her new book, Cute Yum published by Belly Kids, features a true representation of curvaceous, shapely females compared to the standard size zero models that rule the fashion world. Inspired by FRUITS, a documentation of quirky Japanese fashion, Stringer sought to recreate the eccentricity with bright hued, patterned backgrounds.

As a collective expression of her own identity, Stringer lets her emotions flow out on paper before digitally enhancing each image to produce a refreshing look at female empowerment coupled with a sense of innocence that is evoked by the use of pastel colors and button noses. All in all, Cute Yum is an illustrated showcase of females expressing their inner selves through their outer appearances.
