To send a strong signal for women’s rights, a young woman named Elonë from Karlsruhe, Germany, is writing feminist messages on period pads and leaving them around the city.
Since posting her project on Tumblr earlier this week, her photo of a pad with the message, “imagine if men were as disgusted with rape as they are with periods” scrawled on it has gone viral with over 228,500 shares.
It was inspired by a Tweet from Twitter user @cutequeer96.
Elonë started the project to draw attention to street harassment and to combat victim blaming, and it has since spread to Brazil, Sweden and US colleges.
Emphasizing that feminism means “equality, not men hate”, she is encouraging those who follow to tag their images.
Despite receiving abusive messages, she is undeterred, saying that she regularly donates pads to homeless women in her area.
