Wonderful Edible Sculptures Of Shakespeare’s Head, Skulls, And More

The Edible Vanitas Case

The edible creations of Tasha Marks are nothing short of stunning. Her collaborative project with food sculptors Annabel de Vetten and David Bradley for the Momento Mori exhibition in London, titled The Edible Vanitas Case, is entirely edible, including the skull, the snail shell and the ball of twigs.

Founded in 2011, her company AVM Curiosities creates desserts inspired by art and history. Her work is impressive, ranging from a recreation of Leonardo da Vinci's The Last Supper in chocolate, to a bust of Shakespeare's head using marchpane, an early form of marzipan which gave it a cake-like texture.

Her creations typically take two days to craft and up to months to research and prepare, depending on the scale of the dessert. Although Marks personally enjoys the destruction process of eating her artworks, viewers often hesitate, torn between the desire to maintain the art and to consume it.
