What Happens When Astronauts Cry In Space

Canadian astronaut Chris Hadfield recently uploaded a video on YouTube that shows what happens to tears when astronauts ‘cry’ in space.

In a zero gravity atmosphere, tears do form, however, it does not stream down the cheek—instead, it accumulates to form a blob of tears.

Once the mass of tears gets big enough, it spreads to the rest of the face—until it is eventually removed with a towel.

In the video, Hadfield demonstrates the physics of tears in space by using drinking water to simulate tears.

Hadfield is currently on board the International Space Station in space. He regularly posts interesting videos on what it is like to be an astronaut.
