A Beach That’s Not Relaxing, Lets You Do Extreme Plane Spotting

(via Benny Zheng)

Maho Beach, located on the Dutch side of the Caribbean islands, sounds like an ideal getaway spot for relaxation with its clear blue waters and white sand.

Unlike typical beaches, however, Maho Beach is better off for adrenaline junkies and airplane lovers—it’s located close to the Princess Juliana International Airport that has a short runway of 7,150-feet.

When aircrafts are due to touchdown, they have to get close to the beginning of the runway with minimal altitude—which results in planes flying over the beach, over the heads of beachgoers.

If you love plane-spotting, this beach would be a good holiday destination—its bars and restaurants are even equipped with daily arrival and departure times of various airlines.

According to TwistedSifter, one of the bars even broadcasts real-time radio transmissions between the pilots and the airport’s control tower.
