Skyscraper To Be Transformed Into ‘Hairy’ Wind Farm

The move to renewable energy has been gaining momentum recently, giving rise to many sustainable development designs.

One such sustainable design by Swedish architectural firm Belatchew Arkritekter involves transforming the Söder Torn tower in Stockholm into a gigantic wind farm.

This will be achieved by covering the skyscraper in a large number of hairy-looking straws.

The straws are made of a composite material that contains piezoelectric properties, which can convert motion from the wind into electric energy.

One advantage of using these straws over traditional wind farms is that they will be able to function even in a light breeze.

There is also the added benefit of the straws being much more quiet—an important fact considering this new wind farm will be in the middle of a city.
