World’s Biggest Rubber Duck ‘Dies’

Tragedy has struck—the world’s biggest rubber duck that made its debut in Hong Kong waters earlier this month has deflated.

Some of the parts of the six-story high sculpture created by Dutch artist Florentijn Hofman was broken; thus, organizers deflated it overnight for maintenance work.

“We scheduled a body check for these two days. If everything is fine, we can inflate it as soon as possible,” advertising and promotions manager for waterfront shopping mall Harbour City, Andrew Yeung, told Channel News Asia.

But whether or not the inflatable nostalgia-inducing piece would be ‘resuscitated’ is yet to be confirmed.

The yellow rubber duck was initially planned to be displayed till 9 June 2013.
