The Ultimate Anti-Consumerist Gift: An Empty Cardboard Box

We have previously featured “The Gift Of Nothing”, a present perfect for those who have everything. Now, we have “The Bawx”—a similar gift with a different purpose as it questions our materialism.

Jonathan Schoenberg and Gerry Graf, the heads of two independent stores in Colorado—TDA_Boulder and Barton F. Graf 900—noticed that people’s obsession with technology prevented them from spending time with their family. So they introduced The Bawx, “the perfect holiday gift for the 2-6½-year-old who would rather play with the box than what's inside.”

The site humorously states that “The Bawx” comes in four different models, but it refers to the same product. Absurdly priced from US$24.99 to US$499.99, all proceeds will go to the Blue Sky Bridge in Boulder, which helps victims of child abuse, and the Charley Davidson Leukemia Fund in Boston.

Through this cheeky project, we are reminded of the true spirit of Christmas—it is about making time for our loved ones and helping others, rather than thinking about our unlimited wants.
