The ‘Donor Cable’ is a handy device created by ad agency Y&R Moscow and Azerbaijani cellular network Nar Mobile that lets smartphone owners ‘donate’ battery power from one phone to another.

It can be worn as a bracelet and comes inscribed with the message “Donate energy to save a phone, and donate blood to save a life”.

Why blood donations? Azerbaijan has the highest number of Thalassemic births in the world, and hospitals often lack donated blood to treat children with the disorder.

Created as part of the campaign to encourage blood donations, the bracelets were given away with each Android phone purchase at Nar Mobile stores around the country.

Blood donation vans were also conveniently parked outside the stores so customers could easily donate blood after being reminded of the problem.

The campaign turned out to be a proven success—besides extensive media coverage, it also raised the country’s blood donation rate by an impressive 335%.
