Japanese sculptor Ryosuke Ohtake has created a hyperrealistic lobster sculpture.

This project was the artist's first official Jizai Okimono—a “niche category” originated in the late 1700s within the sculpture community in Japan. It requires sculptors to flawlessly shape animals from iron, copper and metal whose entire structure, joints and limbs emulate the subject and its movement.

The use of wood amazed many as its level of carving difficulty is higher than that of metals, and the lobster is considered to be a “challenging subject”, as compared to crafting a bird, fish or other crustaceans.
