Swedish artist and entrepreneur Mikael Genberg is holding a crowdfunding campaign in hope of raising US$15 million to place his trademark Swedish red house on the moon by next year.
Supporters of the “Moonhouse Project” can purchase “moon meters”—for instance, pledging “US$1 will bring the Moonhouse 25 meters closer to the moon”, while a contribution of US$50 or more will have the donor's name engraved on the house along with other “keepsakes”.
The 15 year project is currently 75% completed, it will be self-assembled and transported by US aerospace company Astrobotic.
The project aims to inspire people to “break mental boundaries and change the perception of what is possible”.
