French ceramist Laurent Craste has teamed up with digital agency Dpt. to create a fascinating animated art installation titled “Parade” for the Chromatic festival in Montreal.
At first, viewers may be underwhelmed by the seemingly plain looking exhibit of two distorted white vases atop a dresser, with their shadows casted on the wall by a dimly lighted lamp—but the installation instantly comes to life when one gives the hanging lamp a push.
The swinging light causes the vases' shadows to twirl and sway in a joyous rhythm, with the help of a “hidden projector that tracks the movements of the faux light source”.
