This Cooking Machine Lets You Whip Up A Meal Remotely Using Your Smartphone

Designers Christian Isberg and Petter Johansson Kukacka have teamed up with programmer Lasse Korsgaard and chef Carl Berglöf to come up with a cooking machine that lets you control it with your smartphone.

Inspired by the idea of a remote controlled toaster, these creatives wondered if it was necessary for a physical presence in the kitchen in order for meals to be made. They interviewed a Swedish chef, who admitted that this may not be necessary, especially if he has made the dish before.

Encouraged, the team came up with a cooking machine that consists of a large pot, a chimney, and 35 ingredient dispensers that contain spices, herbs and meats. The machine is linked to a digital platform, and up to five chefs can access it via the internet to cook.

Chefs get to remotely control the heat, timing, stirring and seasoning from their computers and smartphones. The project comes with a twist, however—each participating chef is anonymous as the creators want to promote a dialog about the culinary arts.

The machine also monitors how each chef reacts in this unusual situation, giving us some insight on how this idea works in real-time.

What do you think—would you try this out, or do you believe that meals should be prepared the good old-fashioned way?
