‘NYC Taxis’ App Lets You Visualize A Day In The Life Of A Cab Driver

Programmer Chris Whong has created an app that lets you visualize a day in the life of a typical NYC cab driver in the city.

Called ‘NYC Taxis: A Day in the Life’, the app contains a map of New York City, with a yellow dot representing a cab. Its route is tracked by a blue line as it journeys around picking up passengers.

Passenger pick-ups and drop-offs are represented by green and red dots respectively, while a menu on the right side of the screen keeps tabs on fares, taxes and toll charges.

The resulting trip is a hypnotic ride through the city over the course of 24 hours.

Whong mapped out taxi trip data from 2013, which comprised 10 million cab rides, out of which he selected 30 cabs per day at random.

If you’re a New York City resident who frequently takes taxis to get around, this app might just help you appreciate how hard cabbies work everyday.

Check out some screenshots from the app below, and try it out for yourself here.
