Photographs Offer Insider Look At Old Family Businesses In The U.S.A

Satin Wave Beauty and Barber Shop, Milwaukee, Established circa 1955 by James Flipping.

Photographer Carl Corey took a trip to Wisconsin to meet families that owned their businesses for at least 50 years, giving us an insider's view of their lives.

In his new book For Love and Money: Portraits of Wisconsin Family Businesses, Corey featured a variety of businesses, including bars, fisheries, and hardware stores.

By capturing the owners in their respective workplaces, Corey also revealed their innate charm. Unlike most major retailers, these family businesses have personal touches in its interior design—framed family portraits on walls, and dated furniture that lasted them through the years—that leaves visitors intrigued about its long history.

Take a look at Corey’s work below. You can also purchase his book here.
