England-based software company Serif has just launched ‘Affinity Photo’, touted as a new and powerful alternative to Adobe Photoshop.
Described as “the fastest, smoothest, most precise, professional image editing software for Mac”, it is designed for professional photographers and retouchers.
Its creators aim to set it apart from other photo-editing software by championing its super fast speed and affordable price tag.
Said Ashley Hewson, managing director of Serif in an interview with Creative Bloq, “Photoshop is an amazing piece of software. But the problem is, it’s built on 25-year-old architecture. When that architecture was being created, Adobe couldn’t have anticipated the incredible developments we’ve seen in computers since. Which means that they’re now struggling to adapt Photoshop to take advantage of modern computing power.”
To demonstrate its superiority to competitors, the program boasts pro features even in beta mode, such as Frequency Separation editing, live blend modes, and Inpainting. It also includes “end-to-end CMYK, LAB colour, 16-bits per channel editing, ICC color profiling, and Photoshop PSD and 64-bit plug-in support.”
The program is compatible with Mac OX X Lion 10.7.5 and above on Intel 64, and is available in English, German, French and Spanish.
