Ever heard of the saying “never judge a book by its cover”?

Amsterdam creative studio Moore, together with digital production studio This Page Cannot Be Found, has created a book that would reverse the adaptation of the idiom.

The book titled The Cover That Judges You is made up of an integrated camera and facial recognition technology that scans and evaluates the facial expression of the person that appears before it.

The book only unlocks itself when it detects that the reader is not overly excited or showing too little enthusiasm—only when a neutral expression is made, the screen would turn green and an Arduino mirco-controller would then unbolt the lock.

Thijs Biersteker of Moore told Dezeen, “our aim was to create a book cover that is human and approachable-hi-tech…the face-recognition system picks up your face and starts scanning it for signs of ‘judgement’”.

The book is a prototype for the Art Directors Club Netherlands’ 2015, it is filled with an edited selection of creative works.
