In Japan, Spaces Under Elevated Train Tracks Get Turned Into Art Hubs

In a bid to reform the former red-light district in Kogane-cho area of Yokohama, Japan—and transform the location into an art lover’s playground—an art and culture hub was set up under an elevated train track.

Located in the hollow space under the Keihin railway tracks, the hub occupies a span of 1,080-1,625 feet of land.

It has rooms that were turned into a gallery, café, studio, and hall for creators to present their artworks.

Not only did the newly implemented hub cleverly redefine the unused space, but also repackaged the district’s reputation as an artsy, creative neighborhood.
