In Norway, New Light Installation Is Made Permanent

American studio INABA has made a permanent installation for KORO public art Norway.

Called ‘Skylight’, the chandelier hangs from the foyer of the new concert hall at 6.6m by 11.5m.

It is visible from surrounding neighbourhood and harbor, and from the adjacent public plaza.

Skylight is conceived as an inverted chandelier, where its light fixtures face inward to illuminate the structure’s interior surface.

Its LED system is designed to change in brightness and hue, producing distinct patterns during theatre calls, intermission, arrival, departure, and after hours.

Skylight’s distributed weight causes the installation to rest at an inclined angle and parallels itself to the sun’s angle of incidence during key moments over the year.

The installation also responds to extreme atmospheric conditions, emitting pure color light patterns that contrast and complement the twilight Nordic sky.
