Japanese architect Hiroshi Nakamura has designed a house with a bulge, as though the building is pregnant.
Called the ‘House SH’, the bump of the building was inspired by a kangaroo pouch.
The protrusion outside has created a dip in the interior which offers a comfortable space to rest like a pouch.
According to Nakamura, the idea f sitting and lying in it allows dwellers to “form an affectionate relationship with the hollow, like exchanging bodily conversations”, thus a sense of sort of intimacy created in House SH.
“The hollow embraces; softy and gently, like a kangaroo’s pouch. It embraces the light from the top and glows in the early morning, in the midst of the day. The reflected light enters each room with varied expressions giving characters to each space.” Shared Nakamura.
“Sitting in it and lying in it, the dwellers hopefully form an affectionate relationship with the hollow, like exchanging bodily conversations. This is the ‘intimacy’ I hope to create between architecture and people.”
