Chronicling the history of video games, Video Games: The Movie lets you have a glimpse into the rise of the multi-billion dollar industry.

Interviews with industry pioneers such as Atari co-founder Nolan Bushnell, top game designers and experts like creator of the Metal Gear series, Hideo Kojima, can be expected from the film.

Viewers can also look forward to seeing actor and host Wil Wheaton, stand-up comedian Chris Hardwick and actress Alison Haislip in the “feature-length documentary”.

According to VentureBeat, president of Variance Films Dylan Marchetti said in a statement: “Everyone loves a great video game, but in recent years, they’ve evolved into something way beyond what any of us who grew up playing an 8-bit system could imagine.”

“But regardless of whether you’re up gaming until 3 a.m. or haven’t played a video game in decades, there’s something for you in this film, and we think audiences will be delighted,” he continued.

The movie is currently available for pre-order through its official website, and is scheduled to hit theatres and “available on demand around the world” from 15 July 2014 onwards.
