There is now a way for rural residents to connect to the internet with ease. Australian scientists are looking to produce technology that enables WiFi sensors to be incorporated into the ear tags put on sheep.
This way, while the farm animals roam to remote areas, they bring access to the internet with them. According to reports by The Atlantic, the scientists have added solar panels into the ear tags, removing the need for batteries or recharging, cutting down on the cost and weight of the product.
Scientists are hopeful that incorporating the device on herding animals not only fosters connectivity over long distances, it can also work to keep an eye on environmental conditions, pollution or other weather related occurrences.
Scientists are also looking to use these ear tags on reindeer in Scandinavia. Find out more information here.
