To rail against the US Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) decision to ban gay and bisexual men from donating blood due to HIV fears, Saatchi & Saatchi New York has created a humorous and tongue-in-cheek ad that shows eight non-sexual alternative activities to engage in.

The ad, which debuted on YouTube last Thursday, stars actor Alan Cumming introducing a ‘Celibacy Challenge’ featuring a list of things to do in place of sex, including taking up pottery, practicing yoga and cleaning trophies.

Under new regulations, gay and bisexual men can only donate blood if they abstain from sex for a year.

The mock PSA was made for GLAAD and the Gay Men’s Health Crisis, who want the FDA to revise its policy and screen donors based on their exposure to risk instead of their sexual orientation.
