To help fans feel like they’re in the movie itself, the makers of The Dark Knight Rises have released an official app that integrates the soundtrack of the movie by Hans Zimmer into user’s environment in real-time—transforming their world into Gotham City.
The app, called ‘The Dark Knight Rises Z+’, immerses users into an augmented soundtrack experience that highlights Zimmer’s compositions and the sounds of Gotham City.
When users plug in headphones, and choose AutoPilot’ mode, the app decides what users would hear based on the noise in their environment, the time of day, and whether or not the user is moving about.
The app would select music, sounds and voices from the movie—that reflect the ambience users are in—to help users feel like they’re in Gotham City.
Behind-the-scenes audio commentaries by composer Hans Zimmer and director Christopher Nolan is also integrated in the experience.
“I’m hoping to give fans of this beloved trilogy the opportunity to fully immerse themselves in the soundscapes and atmospheres of the world of the Dark Knight,” Zimmer said in a statement.
“This new app allows users to be part of the film in a way that goes beyond the movie screen—it’s the difference between looking at a photo of a river, and being able to drop your hand over the side of the boat and feel the currents of the water tug as the river takes you on a journey.”
The free app is available from the iTunes store.
