Since March 30th 1995, Washington-born artist, Bryan Lewis Saunders has been drawing self-portraits every day—a practice he intends keep up for the rest of his life.
After experiencing a “drastic change” in his environment, he started looking for other ways to affect his perception of himself.
He devised a rather dangerous experiment where he takes a different drug each day before drawing self-portraits, while under the influence.
According to a statement taken from his website, he said “Within weeks I became lethargic and suffered mild brain damage.”
“I am still conducting this experiment but over greater lapses of time,” Saunders adds, “I only take drugs that are given to me.”
We have selected a few of his ‘self-induced drug portraits’—please visit his website to view the rest of his works.
