In Australia, McDonald’s has changed its name—but only for a while.

Now, consumers can spot the Aussie nickname of the fast-food restaurant—“Macca’s”—on the iconic golden arches signage across the country.

The change was part of DDB Australia’s campaign to celebrate the national Australia Day (26 January) at McDonald’s.

The logos with the Aussie twist, on the signage of 13 outlets, will be up until 4 February.

In addition to the celebration, an Aussie tastes menu will also be introduced—along with TV, digital, print, outdoor, PR and social media executions.

“We are thrilled with this integrated response from DDB Group, not only does it successfully showcase our Aussie tastes range, it also celebrates our place in the Australian community, including our ‘Aussie-only’ nickname—Macca’s,” Mark Lollback, chief marking officer at McDonald’s Australia, said in a statement.

“We’ve been a part of Australia for over 40 years now and we’re incredible proud to embrace the nickname Australians have given us.”
