New York-based architecture firm nARCHITECTS has created a concept of “micro-units” for an apartment building.
The project is the winning design of Mayor Bloomberg’s AdAPT NYC competition, which seeks to visualize future housing in New York.
nARCHITECTS’ scheme, known as ‘My Micro NY’, sets up nine stories of long, thin units designed a bit like a cabin on a ship—full of hidden details.
Each unit is divided into a “toolbox”, consisting of housing essentials like bathroom, kitchen and a “canvas”—a window-facing tabula rasa that can function as a living room, study area or a bedroom.
The model unit currently sits in the inside of the Museum of the City of New York, along with other proposals submitted.
The design firm is set to put 55 of these micro-units on site in 2015, selling at nearly half price below the market rate.
