Australian conceptual photographer Dean West has teamed up with renowned LEGO artist Nathan Sawaya to create a series of thought-provoking images—entitled “In Pieces”—in which he has ‘hidden’ some of Sawaya’s incredibly hyper-realistic LEGO sculptures.
After giving up a well-paying law career, Sawaya has carved a name for himself in the past decade with his amazing, massive LEGO installation art—each piece typically takes thousands of plastic bricks to construct.
By inserting them into seemingly everyday scenes, the photographer was able to provide a new perspective from which to view these unconventional sculptures—each LEGO object is cleverly disguised and only reveals its true pixelated form upon close scrutiny.
Taking diverse and surprising shapes—from a dead, leaveless tree to an unbelievably wearable dress and life-like dog on a leash—one is compelled to spare more than just a cursory glance at these pictures to find the LEGO piece in the frame.
“In Pieces” will be exhibited at the William J. Clinton Presidential Center Library in Little Rock, AK until 2 February 2013—or simply view them on the photographer’s website.
