Toronto-based Canadian train buff Jason Shron—who builds train models for a living—expressed his love for the locomotive by building a life-sized replica of a train car in his basement.

Taking 4.5 years and 2,500 hours to construct, this incredible DIY project is a uncanny copy of a 1980 VIA Rail train carriage—including authentic interior parts that were salvaged from a car that was to be scraped.

Re-created fixturessuch as emergency tools—and a photo mural depicting an adjoining car complete the illusion of being in a real train.

Documenting the entire process in the video below, Shron has also set up a website for his train-related basement projects—he hopes to build a model railway network on the upper level of his basement.
