A Clever Window That Blocks Out Noise, But Not The Breeze

Korean scientists Sang-Hoon Kim and Seong-Hyun Lee have developed a clever window that’s able to let air pass through sans the noise.

The ‘Air Transparent Soundproof Window’ is a double-glazed acrylic window that has its two transparent layers sitting 40mm apart.

The 40mm-space in between the double-glazed window acts as a “resonance chamber”.

50mm holes are also drilled through each piece of acrylic layer, so that majority of sound gets trapped in the chamber, but not obstruct airflow—thus allowing the window to absorb sound, while allowing a free passage of air.

Would this acoustic soundproofing be beneficial for those living in the city?
