Specializing in photo-realistic watercolors of anatomical structures, Massachusetts-based artist Danny Quirk paints what “the camera can't capture” in a style that blends scientific illustration and classical portraiture.
Quirk’s ‘Self Dissection’ is a series of surreal portraits “where the subject is revealing underlying anatomical structures by means of self dissection.”
The works, painted in classic poses with dramatic chiaroscuro lighting, were inspired by Quirk’s interest in anatomy when he was aspiring to be a medical illustrator during his senior year at Pratt Institute.
