Have you ever found yourself at the beach for a day of lazy reading but realized that you have forgotten to bring a book?
In that case, French architect’s Matali Crasset’s latest design, “Bibliothèque de Plage,” or “Beach Library”, will come in very handy indeed.
The temporary pop-up library, consisting of tarpaulin draped over a steel frame, can currently be found on the shores of La Romaniquette—it will be opened daily until 1 September 2013 and for the first two weekends of the same month.
Housing a small but good collection of 350 titles, this seaside library features three shaded seating areas that provides cool alcoves for readers—the books are kept in the structure’s core at the center.
Part of the Marseille’s local government initiative to promote public literacy, Crasset’s pop-up library is an unusual “beach kiosk” that will no doubt attract book-loving beach-goers.
