The late American actress, model and singer, Marilyn Monroe, is known to be a beauty of her time and a sex icon—and her legacy continues to live to this day and age.
Not only do men desire her, but women desire to be her.
In a series entitled ‘Marilyn’, Los Angeles-based photographer Emily Berl captures women who are inspired by, and dream of being, Monroe in everyway—from her style, to her looks and even personality.
Some of these ladies are actors that play Marilyn, while others are just life-long fans that are paying tribute to her—according to Feature Shoot—and there are some that feel a strong personal connection to the celebrity’s story, up to a point where they feel like they are her.
“My main criteria for photographing these people is that Marilyn has to be a large part of their lives, either as a profession or something they personally draw inspiration from,” she told Feature Shoot.
“I’m less concerned about how much they look like Marilyn and more concerned about their motivations for becoming her. The women I have met through this project want to portray the real Marilyn, not the overly sexualized, overly simplified version of her.”
Whether or not you are a fan of hers, or know her story, these photographs of Marilyn Monroe impersonators—that bear the uncanny resemblance to the real deal—are still fascinating to look at.
