This summer, New Yorkers can beat the heat and get out of the heatwave: a bar made entirely out of ice has opOpensened in the city.
Found at the New York Hilton Midtown on Sixth Avenue, the ‘Minus5˚ Ice Bar’ lets customers literally chill out.
From its walls, light fixtures and bar, to sculptures, seats and glasses—everything inside the place is carved out of Canadian ice.
To maintain the décor and furniture, the place is chilled at 23 degrees Fahrenheit (-5 degrees Celsius)—and makes it feel like winter in New York, even during summer.
Ice carvers come in every 6-8 weeks to change the bar and sculptures.
To enter the latest coolest place in the Big Apple, visitors would have to pay a US$20 admission fee that would include provided parkas and gloves.
Heat-emitting devices, such as mobile phones, are to be deposited in temperature-proof lockers at the door—so that they don’t melt the ice.
