NASA Introduces New Anime-Inspired Mascots

NASA and the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency are collaborating on the Global Precipitation Measurement mission, where they will be jointly sending a satellite into space.

To mark the occasion, the partners have invited young people from both the U.S.A and Japan to create anime-styled mascots for the mission—two grand winners were recently unveiled, which are namely “Mizu-Chan” by Sabrynne Buchholz from Colorado and “GPM” by Yuki Kiriga from Tokyo.

While the sweet-looking Mizu-Chan can “evaporate water with her hair”, GPM is a half Japanese half American hum satellite observes the Earth and is capable of measuring precipitation.

According to NASA, “these two characters will star in their own comic series to help teach the public about precipitation science and the Global Precipitation Measurement mission”.
