In the series ‘Pepe’, Haiti-based photographers Paolo Woods and Ben Depp have documented an interesting phenomenon: American t-shirts, originally made in Haiti, travel a whole circle, only to be donated to and worn by Haitians. These second-hand clothes are known as ‘Pepe’.
The shirts often contain slogans of “questionable taste”, and create a strange and incongruous juxtaposition when worn by people in remote provinces of Haiti.
