Japanese car manufacturer, Nissan wanted to demonstrate how electric cars could offer cheaper rides compared to the traditional fuel-driven vehicles—especially since petrol prices are rising.

As part of a special promotion, Nissan offered passengers in London and Amsterdam a free ride in their ‘LEAF taxis’ in exchange for tweeting their destination together with the hashtag ‘#6XCHEAPER’.

The emphasis of this campaign was to promote electric vehicles as a mode of transportation since fuelling an electric car is six times cheaper than a similar sized petrol vehicle—translating to cheaper taxi fares.

It also allowed Nissan the chance to evaluate the performance of their LEAF vehicles and their potential to be a taxi fleet.
