San Francisco-based artist Liz Hickok, who has worked previously in photography, video, sculpture and installation, recently added a new medium to her portfolio⎯Jell-O.
With incredible attention to details, the artist has constructed a gelatinous replica of San Francisco entirely out of colorful Jell-O.
Much more than a crude, candied representation of the city, Hickok has taken care to carefully carve many of the imposing facades of existing architecture into her Jell-O buildings.
Seeking to reflect on the transience of human life, the artist explains that “while the translucent beauty of the compositions first seduces the viewer, their fragility quickly becomes a metaphor for the transitory nature of human artifacts”.
